Structural Changes in Volunteerism in Refugee Work at Sports Clubs –A project within the scope of the BIM research intervention cluster “Solidarity in transformation?”.

Project description

The research project concerns the following issue: During the “refugee crisis” in Germany in 2015/2016, how did sports clubs mobilize the donation of time and knowledge to cope with the tasks in refugee work that often exceeded the actual purpose of a sports club? At organizational level, the project researches how sports clubs created sport- and non-sport-related offers that benefitted refugees. At personnel level, the project examines how the clubs managed to engage non-members in voluntary participation in the club's relevant offer structures.
