Adamantios Arampatzis is the head of the Department of Training and Movement Sciences at the Humboldt-University Berlin. He finished his PhD in training and movement sciences as well as in sports medicine in 1995 and got his habiliation in biomechanics in 2002 at the German Sports University Cologne. He was the head of the research group with focus on neuro-biomechanics of the musculosceletal system from 2000 to 2008 at the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics of the German Sports University Cologne.
His research is focused on the plasticity of the musculosceletal system after long- and short-term mechanical loading and on the comprehension of the interaction between neuro-muscular capacity and motor function during day-to-day and sport activities. The practical areas of his research are the adaption of the muscle-tendon unity, neuro-muscular control, locomotor adaptation, prevention of sporting injuries as well as the dynamic stability control of elderly persons, aiming on reducing the risk of falling.
He is author and co-author for more than 90 peer review publications in the scope of movement science, biomechanics and physiology as well as for more than 180 conference papers and 20 book chapters. At present he is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Biomechanics and the Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology. He also is Reviewer for many other scientific journals. Dr Arampatzis is member of various scientific associations, i.e. the International, German and Hellenic Societies of Biomechanics and the European College of Sports Science.
