Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Chair of Training and Movement Sciences

Labs

The Department of Training and Movement Sciences runs four major laboratories with excellent conditions for fundamental and applied science.

The large motion analysis laboratory with about 200 square meters and a ceiling height of five meters is equipped with a Vicon motion capturing system with 20 cameras, two ultrasound devices and three force plates. A mobile gangway with an implemented force plate-controlled floor-perturbation-device can be set up in combination with a security system. Further, a magnetic relay system can be used to induce whole-body or trunk perturbations.

The functional diagnostic laboratory features strength and motor control diagnostics equipment including a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer and provides space for training interventions.

An additional laboratory is equipped with another Biodex isokinetic dynamometer, Vicon motion capturing system including 10 cameras and two ultrasound systems for the assessment of muscle and tendon properties.

The gym laboratory features several instrumented strength machines and four treadmills, one of which incorporates a pressure plate while another one provides a high-speed mode, both integrated in a motion analysis system.

Mobile ultrasound devices, four wireless 16 channel EMG systems, a high-density EMG system, two mobile force plates, a body composition measurement device, an electro stimulation device, an oxygen analysis system, three big feedback monitors and numerous sensors complement the research equipment of the department.
